Greetings! My name is Brian Jones, and I am currently serving my 20th year at Henderson Middle School. It has been an honor serving the families in this community. I am a teacher on Team 6B which has been my "home" for most of my years at Henderson.
I graduated from Mercer University with a degree in Teacher Education, and my primary areas of concentration include Language Arts and Social Studies. I previously taught in two private schools in the Metro Atlanta area before coming to Dekalb in 2003. During my college days I often worked as a substitute teacher in Gwinnett County Public Schools. Prior to arriving at Henderson I worked as a Behavioral Aide Therapist with Gwinnett, Rockdale and Newton Community Health Center. I was a part of the child and adolescent services, working with children and adolescents who had severe emotional and mental disorders. Working with my clients, their parents, and the schools, I was tasked with developing strategies to help provide a successful environment which enabled my clients to function in their schools and communities.
A hobby of mine is traveling. My voyages have taken me to many places around the world which has afforded me the opportunity to see many of the places we discuss in class this year. Your child will hear some of my first hand experiences encountering different cultures, both informative and entertaining. Learning should be fun, right?!?

I also love animals, particularly dogs and cats. I have volunteered for many years in animal rescue. Making families complete with a furry creature is what I love to do! Dolly is my dog, and she is a welcomed sight at the end of each, long, busy day.
I look forward to meeting each of you. Please know that I welcome an open line of communication, whether it be compliment or complaint, as both help me to become a better teacher as well as help to clarify and alleviate any misunderstandings that might arise. Please reach out via email or phone calls whenever needed. [email protected] or 470-424-5057 (Texting this number is fine as well if it is easier.)
I love a little humor in life, and so often you might hear of silly stories or events that I share in class. Please note that we ARE learning in the midst of having a laugh or two.
